Today Carson had to have surgery to fix a small hernia in his lower right abdomen. We had to be at the surgery center on the opposite side of town at 8:45 am. I was nervous we wouldn't make it on time, since we had to drive through downtown Austin in rush hour, but we made it there with some time to spare. This is Carson pre-operation. All smiles! He chose to have grape "flavored" laughing gas. His goal was to see if he could count to 20 with the mask on. He said he made it to 11.
Everything went well with his surgery. The nurses were also impressed with how well he came out of the anesthesia. He was told before the surgery that when he was done he could have as many popsicles as he wanted. He was really excited about that, since he had to go in fasting. And even though he was pretty groggy, he ended up eating 3 popsicles! (The nurse had to cut him off- she didn't want him throwing them up!)
Hudson was a very good baby during the surgery as well. He was glad to see that Carson was all right. :)
So far he's been pretty comfortable and he hasn't complained too much about pain. He told me that he really didn't like the laughing gas. It did not make him laugh. Mostly he's bummed because tomorrow is Field Day at school, so he won't be able to go and participate. But we're all glad that everything went smoothly and that he seems to be on the quick road to recovery.

What a brave boy!! I'm glad he's doing well. Kids having surgery scares me.

Awww, poor guy. Surgery is scary...especially when it is your child. Sorry you had to go through that.
